MAECIT (pronounced Make-it)  is a field-based program intended first and foremost for those interested in a second career as an educator who may not have an education-related background, and who wish to acquire a Master’s degree. Applicants with substantial prior work experience are given highest consideration.

The MAECIT degree program provides successful candidates with a Master’s degree in Education and initial certification in:

  • all level special education,
  • bilingual education EC-4
  • 4-8 Math/Science
  • secondary math and science
  • early childhood –4th grade general education *

*San Antonio school districts for the most part are no longer hiring EC-4 teachers with a provisional teaching certificate. Due to this change in hiring policies, the MAECIT program is offering those interested in EC-4 certification an accelerated, one year, spring to spring evening program, that includes a full time student teaching semester during daytime school hours in the final semester. Until the hiring market changes, this will be the only program option for EC-4 candidates in MAECIT.
