The MAECIT program begins with the spring semester and is completed by the end of the fall semester of the second year. Candidates take 6 hours of evening course work in the spring that includes a minimum of a 3 hour block once a week of daytime classroom field work experience. This requirement will not be waived for any reason. Students will be placed in schools for this requirement by the COEHD Coordinator of Field Placements. Past MAECIT candidates have used vacation time, personal days, or made other arrangements with employers to complete the required field work.
Students continue their course work in the summer, taking 9 credit hours while pursuing employment opportunities, followed by 6 hours in the fall and 6 hours in the spring of the internship year. Nine hours of course work are completed during the second summer of the program, with 3 hours of course work done in the fall of the second year to complete the requirements of the chosen certification area. During this internship year students are also sitting for the teacher certification exams. Comprehensive exams for the degree and graduation are taken during the final fall semester.
